Introducing Kindergarten to printmaking is a fun and creative process by using legos. This project lets you give your students creative freedom while also making the process relevant to them (since many kids have been introduced to legos by this grade). With these easy steps, lego print robots can become a favorite project among your kiddos.

To get started in the most mess-free possible, prepping this project is a must.
Materials
- Heavier paper like cardstock
- Black ink or paint (this was done with paint: if you use watercolor, I suggest the black carbon ink I linked above in order for there to be no smudging)
- Plates for ink (paper, printmaking plates)
- Legos or building bricks(the bricks do not need to be name brand since you are using them just to print and are much cheaper than the lego brand. The link above is 1500 pieces and has a variety of shapes and sizes)
- Coloring materials (colored pencils, watercolor: nothing that will cover up the black paint/ink)

Steps
- Before your students arrive to class, prep the work and clean up areas. This will make the process much cleaner and easier.
- Each table should have an assortment of legos. Give a variety so that there is room for creativity and ingenuity.
- On each plate, give a quarter size amount of paint and spread it out in a somewhat thin layer. As the students work, they can ask for more paint.
- When students arrive, give a demonstration on the activity specifically showing how to dip the lego and make the print. Make a show of adding too much paint/ink or not focusing during the printing process.
- When the students return for the next class, have them color their robots using the color materials suggested. The examples used colored pencils, but watercolor is a good choice as well. I really like Artist Loft pan set. It comes in many colors and does not get sticky or run out quickly like I find happens with other sets.
